Unit 2- Understanding Power: The Corporation

Unit 2- Understanding Power: The Corporation
What We Know vs. What We Want to Know
While some people are blinded by the power that is given to large corporations, others are trying to understand why people are not doing anything to stop them from the negative impact that they provide for society. Joel Bakan a write, filmmaker, and Professor at the University of British Columbia Faculty of Law claims in his book The Corporation that corporations have dominated economic institutions and the government has not done much to try to stop them.  Having become a big part in society they are very influential and they have power in many ways in our communities. Corporations have impacted the world and they dominate smaller businesses, they lack social responsibilities and they lack Fair labor standards. While some are blinded by all the goods that corporations have done other will point out all the negative impacts they have in the world.
While corporations are impacting the world, they try to beautify themselves for the community to portray that they are doing good and that if they are doing something to hurt the environment they will say what the community wants to hear but do nothing because they only care about the money that they will be making. Being blindsided by their good can affect the community because they may not see the negative impact that the environment suffers. Since social responsibilities, the way that the corporations represent themselves to the community, play a big role with corporations people should try to be aware of the problems that corporations are not addressing properly. Bakan states, “Their whole goal is to present themselves to the public in a way that is appealing to the public [but] in fact may not be representative of what th[e] organization is really like,” (57). Corporations want people to view them a certain way but in reality they are just looking out for their best interest. In this case people are forgetting the really value of words and are putting aside what they believe because they hear good things. The corporations put aside any concerns that the public are facing as long as people are still buying their products. Corporations are selfish and the public is not aware of this problem because they are getting products and what seems to be to them a good deal. In today’s world most people care about their own lives and what they worry about the most is their own interest, many people feel satisfied with corporations because they can make them money in the long run despite all the negative effects they might bring the world. Since many people know a days seem to only care about the money they value and hide all the wrong doings that corporations bring to society because they are selfish just like the corporation that is running the place
Fair labor standards, this act was designed to force corporations to ensure labor workers with the rights and safety that they deserve, while people who run the big corporations don’t get affected by not following the law the only people being hurt are the workers and that can be a love one or even your neighbor. This is a law but in reality the corporations are doing nothing to follow it. Many try not to think of all the negatives involved with corporations and their way of doing business they are are forgetting to see the impact that they are providing society with, in fact corporations are humiliating and over working people. This may seem to many like its none realistic because there are laws against labor standers but truth is that corporations are not being stopped form hurting their workers and even the environment. This act was designed to force corporations to ensure labor workers with the rights and safety that they deserve. Bakan claim that many corporations are not afraid to state,”.. deliberately grammed, indeed legally compelled, to externalize costs without regards for the harm it may cause to people, communities, and the natural environment,” (73). Without even noticing corporations are being selfish and people are forgetting to acknowledge that corporations are only looking for their own interest and they are willing to do whatever it takes to do what they can do make money out of every situation.
In school many of us learn about sweatshops, work provided by big cooperation, that provide long shifts no breaks and over worker their workers with low pay humiliation, and that they are no longer practice but in reality they still exist. While corporations promised to stop using sweatshops reality is that. It is against the law for sweatshop to exist in America but that doesn’t stop corporations from practicing sweatshops, claims Bakan. It amazes me how the government is aware that corporations are neglecting humans and are mistreating them, the fact that the government has to make the people feel safe and protected and are doing nothing to stop sweatshops just shows to me that the government as well as corporations don’t care about others just about what they see in their pockets at the end of the day. Bakan states,” The Corporation, like the psychopathic personality it resembles, is programmed to exploit others for profit,”(69). The fact that corporations are being selfish with the communities that surround them is unspeakable; they are affecting the people that keep their business going strong. I believe that if people were more aware of all the neglect that corporations are practicing people will stop giving large corporations a profit and corporations will be impacted where they are interested the most.
Cooperation’s have the big money and they seem to be making many decisions for society, they are grouping up with politicians and providing them with money so that their voices can be heard. While they practice lobbying, pressuring or perusing one to be on their side, they try to influence the law to be on their side so that the laws that will affect them will not stop the business from getting the money that they care about the most. The fact that corporations have the government on their side that shows me that the government will never try to provide for their people but the people that give them money. This just shows me that the government is not here for the people but for themselves as well. The government is lacking power because they are not the ones with the money, since they are getting it from the corporations they are trying to get the power they can by the money that they can get to have some power. Since corporations use their money to influence others they need to keep their pockets full so they will do whatever it take to be able to have what they want even if it mean to exploit their communities and even the people that work for them.
Perusing consumers to buy new products that are not necessary without the consumer even realizing that they are buying things that they don’t need.  While the consumer are receiving undercover messages they are being influenced to get things that they don’t need in life to satisfy their wants. In Sabrina M. Neely and Tim Coffey academic journal “Understanding the “Four-Eyed, Four-Legged” Consumer: Segmentation Analysis of U.S. Moms” they research the different styles of parental styles and how they consume, in this study the main focus was how the mother communicate with their children. The researcher’s main focuses were the mother values, attitudes, opinions, and market place behaviors. The results of this research indicated that there is 6 different types of moms and they all have different, and they all varied and seemed to be different either because of their race, income, marital status, and geographical location. In those categories were the balancers: the have it all’s, the nurturer: completely main focus is her family, the diva: self-focused, the protector: conservative and with high level of education, the struggler: wants to provide for her children but her financial situation is no help, and the stoic: socially and culturally isolated. Based on the mothers values the researchers claim that their children will be more easily able to fall in to consuming. Because moms are doing the influencing the researchers claim that the children are not the only targets but mothers are the ones that show their children their values in consuming. Neely and Coffey state in their research “Children learn to be consumers by observing persons around them in decision- making and purchasing situation, by modeling the behaviors they observe in others,” this shows me that since kids are the most easily influenced because they don’t get the concepts they just see what’s on advertisement and think they if they have what they see they will be just like what’ in the advertisement because that’s what they look up to. Since many children are looking around them to see as role models they will try to do anything to be like the people they look up too.
Chris Preston author of “Children’s Advertising: the Ethics of Economic Socialization” his research was based on the ethics that researches (advertisers) face in order to aim there targets in the right forms. This article main focus was the way that advertisers choice to focus in younger kids and why. The results were very strange because they came to a conclusion that they weren’t sure if the advertising was really amid for children because some can claim that its main focus is the parent because they can shop and buy the products. Because children are inexperienced in shopping and may not understand the message that the advertisement is trying to portray, people can’t really state that the advertisement is really aimed for children. Preston claims that “Children under seven or eight are less clear as to advertising, and may over-rely upon visuals,” this provides me with a little more understanding that since kids don’t really get the real message that the advertisement is trying to portray they look for what they can understand and that is the pictures. The fact that kids are only getting half of the message because they don’t have the right understanding will only give them the wrong message that is that they should have what they see in the advertisement. Children are the next generation and they seem to be the ones that will be more influenced so they use children to exploit them to their products.
Therefor, people should try to stop all the wrong doings or major corporations because they are exploiting our communities. If people can come together and try to make a difference in the world they can all benefit and try to change local business. People that can become aware of all the problems that they surround them will be able to stop some and even try to get corporations form doing any bad to the society. Corporations need to be good to the community since the community is doing well for them. Once people can be aware I believe that people will stop believing in them and that will help society, because people will have the power to make smaller business and they wont have big competitions and will not run out of business as fast. If the government was to step it up and give power to the people not just the money they will see great benefit many people in our communities will be able to succeed in this world. If people where to be strong individuals we can all make American and even the world a better place of living. People don’t only care about themselves but what’s around them people need to start to stand on their own and even if it means to spend more money they should shop locally because corporations are humiliation and not practicing the law correctly.
While some people choice to stay in the dark side and try to save their money and shop in store such as Wal-Mart, they  are not realizing where their products are being made and what it takes to get them. Cheap isn’t always good even if it is more convenient for the people.  People are forgetting to acknowledge that the people that are making their products are not being treated fairly, if people were to be aware of that problem they will never shop at stores that neglect their workers. Since many people are not aware of the big problem of sweatshops because they believe that they are no longer in practice will stay in bliss of corporations and will keep shopping with them and keep giving them money that potentially keep affecting their communities. People are forgetting to be there for each other and try to help very one that around them. While I believe that being aware of the problems can benefit the world many people will choice not to because they want what is in their best interest. Cheap prices comes along with bad treatment to their workers and like me many others will not agree with that practice and if many of our communities were to come together they will try to stop them and make the world a better place to work and shop.

Lessons Learned about the Corporation

  1. What are the top 5 things you learned about corporations and corporate power in our society from reading Bakan's The Corporation
    1. Corporations lack informing the community about their negative impacts in society.
    2. They have more power than the government.
    3. Corporations use aggressive marketing to get people to but their products.
    4. I learned that their are still sweatshops around, even in California.
    5. Corporations lack moral imperative which means they only care about themselves and the profit they will revive.
  2. What did you learn from your research?
    1. In my research i learned many facts about how people use others to learn better ways to market their goods.
    2. People don't really see it but corporations do many things to get others attention such as they try to get people who are illiterate to buy their products because they cant read the fine print.
    3. Many parents fall into pressure to buy their kids products that their children don't need because their kids "NAG" them to do so and hoe children fall into pressure to ask for things.
  3. What questions do you still have about any of the ideas you studied in The Corporation and/or that you read about in your research?
    1. How can Stealth Marketing help the community? And why doesn't the community try to stop them?
    2. If the government put a stop to corporations how will the community be effected? And how much will we be affected?

Unit 1Final Essay and Reflection

2. There are many ways that violence is formed but many more that cause them. Violence can be a form of expression. Lack of communication can lead many people to become violent. When people feel at their weakest they are vulnerable to become violence because they see no way out of feeling alone. Because violence is not acceptable in society it can be a cry  out for others to receive help and even respect. Many can see violence as a bad thing because they are causing harm to others, but in reality they can be hurting inside as well. Since violence can start at a young age parent need to give their kids the proper attention they deserve because in most cases kids are witnessing violence at home or are being mistreated at home. If kids see violence at home as being okay they can think its okay to be violent out of school and that can lead to being more violent with others.
While some try to cover up the real source of the problem of violence they are forgetting who its affecting. Because people are putting aside the people who are getting affected, i believe that it will just lead up to more violence because they feel like no one will ever be there to hear them out of to lend a hand to them. The fact that people who are being violent are just being given harsh consequences to their actions that just infuriates them because they aren't reviving the attention that they are calling out for.

Unit 1Final Essay

It Can Happen to you too
Leading Chicano writer Luis Rodriguez, a former gang banger and former youth organizer analyzed violence in which it can bring to many of our attention. In his book Hearts and Hands he writes about violence to better inform people on the bigger problem that society is facing, he comes up with various solutions to this problem and he makes very good suggestions on how society can handle problems such as violence. To many of us violence seems to only happen in movies since we hardly experience it but violence has become a big problem in some community and it needs to come to an end. Many assumptions have been made towards youth and violence; people assume that the youth just doesn’t care and that they have no future going for them so they take them as a lost cause and lack to give them any acknowledgement. People will stereotype many youth and affiliate them as violent people. After Reading Rodriguez analysis of violence and his critique of our current solutions to the dilemma that our communities suffer do to violence changes my point of view of the problem. Because the youth are so vulnerable to violence, they are the ones that are the most affected because they are going through a stage of development, they need better communication with adult figures, they need guidance from experienced people, many youth go out to look for the support they don’t receive at home out on the streets and that can lead them to turn to gangs, some communities fail to pay any attention to this situation and fail to support the youth, people should be more aware of violence in every community due to the youth is the next generation and they are being put away in jail cells and not given a chance to succeed in life. People should come to a realization that what they are doing know is only affecting the youth more.
While youth is in the process of figuring out who they are; by either making their own decisions or experimenting, Adults need to diagnose the difficult stage that the youth is going through, they are in the process of learning and adapting to society. Adults should provide guidance and have meaningful talks with the youth that can help make better choices. In Rodriguez analysis he discusses about Francisco’s situation whom was very smart but seemed to have trouble staying in school. Francisco was raised by a single mother because his father walked out of his life when he was young; he lacked strong communication with adults he looked up too. Since Francisco was very young he was hurt and often felt like he was alone, so he turned to gangs for comfort. Francisco was associating with the wrong people and he was being categorizes and often he was being put down and set up for failure by his own community. Rodriguez states “…although he had many things going for him. What he needed to get through this situation was a unified collective of caring adults who would hang in there with him… couldn’t be done when those most needed to help him do so had removed themselves from an integral and trustworthy place in the boy’s life” (73). Francisco was thrown out of school and no school wanted him, he dropped out. Francisco was out in the streets and later began to hang out with the wrong people, he had nothing else to. Since his community through him out of the only place where he can become someone he lost all hope and found comfort out in the streets. When youth are at their weakest and they have experimented things that resulted with negative consequences, like being involved with gangs, all they need is someone who can support them to do better choices instead of being punished. When the youth keeps being punished harshly and when they are being isolated form their community they have nowhere to turn to but to the people that will be there for them. Many can argue that the youth should know better because “they are old enough to know better” but because they are in such a vulnerable stage in life, where they feel like everything is good and sounds good at the moment, what they need is an adult that will be there to support them and provide guidance for them that can possibly guide the youth down the right path.
Because many adults find it easier to just punish the youth for their mistakes, the youth will find it hard to reflect on their own mistakes. Instead of helping the youth the community is making it harder for them to do better in life. They create laws that prevent them from rehabilitating, giving the youth harsh consequences that cause them to be more angry, this shouldn’t be the way that the community and the society as a whole to solve problem. Giving the youth a little more for their self-control will allow them to learn from their mistakes and help them do better in the future. Annette Fuentes an author writes about the “Zero Tolerance Law” that is aimed to clean up the schools, states in her article Arresting Development, Zero tolerance and the criminalization of children, “There are a lot of children arrested for disorderly conduct, which has a very subjective definition. Whoever is standing there gets to define it,” (20). Because the authority has so much power over what is “disorderly conduct” they are creating more criminals rather than preventing them.  Since many of these students were getting arrested for things such as refusing to sit down made them infuriated that cause them to rebel more.
The adults in these youth’s lives are not providing the right guidance that is necessary for the youth to succeed. The adults are not guiding the youth down the right instead they are putting them aside and instead of communicating with them and trying to let them know what is right over wrong they are giving up and just give them harsh consequences to will eventually lead to give them criminal records. Handing the youth to law enforcement is just showing the youth that the adults in their lives have given up on them and don’t think that they believe in them. Rodriguez claims that since we live in such a rapid life style, the adults forget about what surrounds them ,” They are not vested to do anything real lasting because they are more concerned about their career, their financial standing, or their own neck,” (49). The fact that the adults are not helping the youth in life, they are worrying about themselves makes them selfish, they are supposedly here to guide their youth and help them down the right path, but since they are not being there for the youth can affect the youth and make them feel like they are alone in life and can turn them to violence because the people who is supposedly made to be there for them is not there.
Society is doing nothing to give a hand to the youth that is the next generation for the future, because they are being put down and not given a chance to do things right they are set up for failure. Many of the youth stop trying because they feel that they aren’t good enough, law enforcement will stereotype them as bad people and accuse them of doing wrong. “The public debate is now limited largely to those who demonize  youth, who want to put them away to use the repression to curb their natural instinct to re-create the world,” (Rodriguez 45). The fact that people are out to   put the youth away to “clean up the streets and schools” is very over rated. The youth need chances to learn from their mistakes they have a long life ahead of them to change their ways to become something useful in life. Many youth have dreams and inspirations to do something big with their lives, buts since they are not being inspired to do something in life they will not live up to their dreams. The youth could have been very successful later in life but because they are getting criminal records at such a young age they start to believe that they have nothing good set up for them in the future.
Therefore, the youth need more guidance from the adult figures in their lives to support them guide them down a right path that will allow them to reevaluate their mistakes and learn from them. Since society is failing to help out the youth many of which have been affected by the consequences that they are paying for find it useless to try in life. If the community wants to see change with the youth they need to have better communication with the youth and allow them some power over their lives and not give them harsh consequences. Many adults fail to support the youth, the youth are at a point where they need guidance and love that they are not receiving at home. The adults need to address the problem in order to fix the situation that can affect them later in life.

Tentative Thesis Unit 1

After Reading Rodriguez analysis of violence and his critique of our current solutions to the problem that our communities suffer do to violence changes my point of view of the problem. Growing up i was blindside by society; when i thought of violence I automatically thought of movies and that violence only happened in certain places in the community, but now i realize that it is everywhere and its affecting the community and it can affect the future.

Looping In-Class Freewrite

I thought that in my community I was very safe and that I had no violence. This analysis made me think of the topic more because I moved from where I us to live and that turned out to be a very violent place. Since I was so young I never had to experience things on hand but my older brothers and sister experienced this violent act because of the friends they had. Neither my brother nor my sisters were violent but they had friends that were in gangs and got into fight some even got killed. I believe that people should be more aware of this bigger problem because it can affect our next generation of people that can be bigger then they can imagine. If the next generation is faced with violent act they are most likely going to end up behind bars, it amazes me that I was not aware of this particular problem because I thought it didn’t really happen where I am from but with the analysis that Rodriquez has made it makes me more aware of all the consequences that violence has and all the problem it has cause with our current society. Many people can argue that this isn’t a problem but it is because they are the next generation and the youth is what is going to be setting up the society. People need to be more aware of this and take a stand to make a change.
I believe that people should be more aware of this bigger problem because it can affect our next generation of people. Since many of the youth are getting in to gangs and are becoming a problem with law enforcements, they are being put aside when they can be doing something with their lives since they are so young they have many more things to live for and they are being shut down and are not being able to become anything in life. Which can stop them from being something for the community or the society as a whole. The youth is not being looked at propyl and they are going nowhere with their lives they need to be guided to make better choice for their futures since they are the future for the incoming society. People need to face the problem to fix it and everyone should be involved to solve the problem so save the next generation.
Many people can argue that this isn’t a problem but it is because they are the next generation and the youth is what is going to be setting up the society. People need to be more aware of this and take a stand to make a change. When people become so blind-sided about this problem they forget who are the people that this problem is affecting the most. The future is getting affected because society is corruptly putting aside the bigger picture and that is that violence can happen anywhere. If adults and law enforcement were to take a stand and help the youth and guide them through the right path youth wouldn’t turn to gangs or violence. Once people stat to care about what is going on they can do something about it and be their for the youth because they are all so young and need help from adults to make better choice, this doesn’t mean that parents or law enforcement should be all over the youth just help them when needed and be their to support them when necessary.  Adults are so caught up with their own problems that they neglect the youth and that just makes them feel so lonely that they turn to whatever they feel will bring them the love that they find at home or with the people they look up too.

Building Community/Facing Violence- Chapters 6, 8

Chapter 6: "Helping children discover values for themselves is more empowering than if you impose them"(Rodriquez 79). When parent give their children so power over theirs lives some take advantage and other don't know what to do with all the control they have over their lives. This quote is important because when I was young all I ever wanted was freedom for my life but my mom was always really controlling and being in my teens made me want to  rebel and do things that she didn't want me too. When I turned 18 my mom gave me complete control over my life since I had no experience with all that power I felt like i had so much on my back. This quote makes me feel like most parents should always learn this because most parent either give to much freedom or to little power and when a young person grows up they wont be able to function in the real world in the long run.
Chapter 8: It's hard to change people. When people do not want to change, of course, no one can truly make them"(Rodriquez 100). When people want to change they need to do it because they want to and for themselves not for others or because others want them too. In order to achieve something people need to take the control themselves. People need to feel like they are doing something for themselves and not for others, when one wants to do something they will do it because they  want to achieve goals and when one makes goals for others people don't take them as serious.

Building Community/FAcing Violence-Initial Reaction

Chapter 1 : "But then, as a wise mane once said, the "Lost causes" are the only ones worth fighting for". (Rodriguez 29). This quote is calming when one has nothing else to fight for, that should be the reason for one to fight for what they believe and want to become. This quote is important to me because it makes me think of never given up because when one is in their lowest their is no way else to go but up. People who think they have no more reasons to fight for life always end up finding do something to fight for that is important to them. This quote makes me feel like nothing isn't worth fighting for, no matter what others believe one should always have a say in their own lives.
Chapter 2: "First we must recognize that our battle is with a society that fails to do all it can for young people- then unjustly lays the blame on them"(Rodriguez 45). People are blaming the wrong people for our problems, as a community people should first find the real reason things are happening in order to find a solution for their problems instead of pointing figures at all the wrong people. This quote is important because it is always important to dig up the real reasons why things are happening if people want to make solutions for a problem. This quote makes me question the law because people who are making the laws aren't thinking in the perspective of others but them selves and they can come up with solutions that can become a bigger problem.
Chapter 3: "to many people have given up"(Rodriguez 50). Many people are not standing up for their own believes but are going of others judgements. People are not doing anything with themselves because they believe that they cant do anything good for themselves and their future. This quote is important because many people give up at a young age and do want a change for their lives. This quote makes me really sad because their are so many people that can do many things with their lives but end up doing nothing because they believe that they cant do anything because they were always told they were nobodies.

Reflecting on Essay #2 Feedback

1. What supersede me the most was the over all grade I revived. Personal I believe I did well, My organization may have been all over the place and very genetic but I don't like sugar coating all my thoughts and saying more information then I should. I feel like if I do I will be limited on what I would like to say.
2. The comments were all very useful; I know where I need improvement on. Which are my structure and organization. In order to do so I need to take more time revising and I need to clarify my argument.
3. Although all the comments are understandable I don't really understand why I need to focus more on specific language, I feel like what I say is easy understandable and self-explainable.
4. Based on the comments on my next essay I should take more time structuring my essay with my thought. By accomplishing this points will be clear and better understood.
5. The time we were given to do this essay I believe that I waited to long to start working on the final. If I would have put more time in this easy I would have been able to attend office hours.
6. To ensure I did well in my next essay I will go to office hours when I feel like I need help I would but more effort in the structure of my essay and make my points clear to that I can have a better understandable essay.

Generating Ideas about the Value of Social Media in a Democracy

7.Why is social media an effective tool for spreading awareness?
People tem. to write their daily life schedule. People but up things that they think are important want others to be more aware of the situation. Many people spend most of their time online so they are constantly looking at things that are being posted, Since people are mostly online other find it easier to get a hold of them.
1.How is social media changing?
Social media is changing because many people are just waiting for others to inform them with news instead of them seeking news on their own. People are letting others tell the news on their own perspective and the people are not getting all the correct information. Many people lack the confidence to search things on their own and rely on others to get information from.

Reflecting on Peer Response Workshop #2: Revision Plan

    1. The group that i worked with in class had many different points in their essays, many which made me think of things differently, for example Jose had great examples of his evidence and he had points of views I agreed with but not necessarily wanted to have in my essay. My partners all had their essays all over the place it wasn't the final product but from what they had i noticed that they all started with a strong thesis but their introduction had some improvements to work on, some had their paragraphs based on each of their concepts they were going to state in their essays.
    2. One of my group members commented that my thesis was strong but based on the rest of the essay paragraphs my points weren't fully stated in the thesis. Jose commented that i should add more to fully extend my thesis.
    3. Two out of three of my group members choice the same weakest paragraph but my third partner choice the same paragraph they did as the strongest, two out of three of my group members stated that i just need to add evidence to my paragraph and that it will be stronger and i agree, because i haven't added any evidence because i still need to review all my points.
    4. I kinda did use the PIE thing in my paragraph development but in high school we learned how to do synthesis essays which helped me develop my paragraph.
    5. I feel like after i reviewed all the comments my peers gave me, i believe that i make my self clear with all my points and i give clear point on what i will write about in the rest of my essay.
    6. I should work on my evidence i will use to prove my points because so far i have none. This will help my reader understand why i am writing about this and my back ups of why i think what i do.
    7. I asked my peers if my points were clear, they all answered the same way and they seem to understand my essay well and i just need to make more connections to the bigger picture.

Brainstorming and generating ideas: Essay 2

Part 1:What are the effects of parent involvement in their students education?
FreeWrite:i believe that if parent are more involved in their kids education they will notice the differences and will be against any of the negative things that have been going on with their students education. parents can make changes and can stand up for their kids in board meetings and they will be supporting their kids education. Parents can show their kids that they can be their for them.

What is the significance of teacher student relationship?
FreeWrite: I believe that it is important for student and teachers to build a relationship because when a teacher and the student get along it is easy for one to communicate with each other. If they get along they can talk about things that they can improve in class.

What is the significance of divergent thinking?
FreeWrite: I believe that students who think out of the box can think deeper about certain topics. They can have better knowledge and have an open mind about things.

Thinking about education: Freewrite response to Anyon

2.In what ways do your educational experiences reflect Anyon’s observations?
In my elementary school I reflected the working class, all my classmates including my mother worked pay check to paycheck. I felt like a lot of the things that they investigated I had in common with. For example i felt like the teachers were to controlling and they just handed out work with no discussions. We were taught the basic things, we were also expected to do what teachers say and we had no other way out then to follow the rules with no contradiction.
    4. Do you think schools should teach students differently based upon their social-economic background? Why or why not?
I believe that all students should get the same treatment and they should all have an equal education. Its not fair that some students get a better education then others, our ancestors have fought for everyone's rights had it wouldn't be fair to just let things go because of social classes.

Reflection on Peer Response and Revision Plan

    1. What was most helpful from the peer revision secession was all the helpful comment I was receiving on how I could improve my essay. My peers suggested I should explain more in deep my reason and be more direct with my audience because i was just putting up my reasons and I wasn't explaining why I had those reasons.
    2. I feel like everything was very helpful because I got to hear from other what I could improve before my final draft.
    3. After all the feed back I am planing on changing my introduction and adding one more reason. I will also have to be specific with what i am trying to say with my evidence. I will also have to add evidence from Lessings speech
    4. I will reread the speech of Lessings and add or change what others suggested I should change. I will also look over the homework to make sure that I am accomplishing what i want my essay to look when the final draft is due.

    Strongest and Weakest Paragraph

WEAKEST: I feel like my introduction is my weakest paragraph because i didn't identify who Lessing is and i didn't identify what her proposal was so that my reader can understand what i am agreeing with or disagreeing with.
Lessing argues that people tend to think as a group with out being aware of it. This is a bigger problem then you think because people lack of awareness. We have access to many information about humanity and society but people don’t use it so they have no knowledge about certain problem that’s are going on. People tend to want to be part of a group so they see no fear on group-minds. Constantly being part of a group and thinking as one can cause many consequences such as losing control of your individualism, not being true to yourself, and falling into peer pressure and doing things that you don’t believe in. I believe that people should be more aware of situations that can affect their lives. People should try to be more individualize then going along with the flow, its an easy way out to let others decide for you but in the long run many of the decisions can affect people in negative ways.
Strongest:  I believe that is is one of my strongest paragraphs because I feel like my reason is true for many people and they can relate with me. I feel like my evidence was very precise and straight forward for others to understand what my point was.
People tend not to care when they believe an issue cant and doesn’t affect them so they go along with what a group believes because it makes it much easier for them. Personally I use to think the same way, I didn’t care about any topic all I care about was myself I was being very selfish and thought that my opinion didn’t mater much people I’m only one person. As I grew older I started to disagree with a lot of thing that were going on around me because they didn’t seem fair for my love ones and other that I care about. I started to speak out and tell others what I believed I got in plenty of arguments to say what I believed in and to have others hear what I had to say. Then I started to realize that not everybody wanted things to go a certain way they just fear that if they specked out they would get in trouble or something bad would happen to them. People believe that they don’t care about certain things but I know that if they knew what things were doing they wouldn’t like what was going on. But people are lazy and rather have others think for them because they feel like regardless of what they believe they don’t have the power to change things.

Free-write on “Group Think” and “Group Minds”

There come many benefits when you are the benefits of follow the opinions and social "norms" of a majority group, for example you get to experience the feeling of being accepted. Being part of the majority seems like it the only way one can feel accepted. There are negative out comes and positive outcomes from following the majority, when you follow the majority I personally feel like you aren’t being true to yourself. People don’t like being the outcast/outsider and they want to be liked and not against everyone because they are scared of what others will think of them because they aren’t part of the norm. I feel like if you follow the majority then there is so many people being part of the norm that it’s hard to even get heard being part of the norm and since there might not be that much people not being part of it then it will help you be heard by others. Not being part of the norm will make you many enemies because people don’t like it when you go against their views. Being the outside can make you very disliked but if you are against the norm that gives you the attention to get others to hear what you believe. Being part of a large norm will eventually lead to not being noticed by others because you are just like everyone else. If you don’t want to be part of the norm then staying true to yourself will be the best decision you can make because like that you can be who you really are and don’t have to change yourself to try to be like everyone else.
